Subject: Does BKT Work on All Hair Types
Date: October 30, 2009 at 7:35 pm PST
A few months ago, I sent some hair samples to a stylist in Canada who specializes in hair straightening. I would like to do a BKT, but am nervous about it b/c my last one resulted in some breakage. This stylist has a very impressive web site and seems to be quite knowledgable about the science behind hair straightening.
My hair is very thick, course, porous and frizzy. It is single process colored dark brown and has Japanese on the bottom 3-5 inches. It feels healthy and strong in most places, but is prone to breakage on the top layer despite frequent deep conditioning.
Anyway, this stylist analyzed my hair by using manual tests and a trichometer. He said that my hair was very strong, but that it lacked elasticity. He did not feel that BKT would work well on my hair. He thought that BKT might make my hair even more strong, but even less elastic, therefore causing it to be brittle and break off.
He also said that if I did decide to do BKT, I should go w/ La Brasilliana because the collagen might help with loss of elasticity.
I am wondering if anyone (stylist or client) has had experience with BKT on hair similar to mine and could possibly comment on this.
