We only sell Lamas Beauty shampoos and skincare products. For a listing of products we sell, please visit our homepage.

Please do not call us about other products that people may talk about on these discussion boards. Subject: Extensions -- for Denise

Hi Denise,

I read in an earlier post that you have experience doing extensions and was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me...

I have extremely thick, course hair that was TR'd using Liscio about four months ago. Since then, I've had some breakage and no matter how much moisturizing I do, my hair feels dry and stiff. The stylist who did it was very experienced, so I don't think it was an error on his part. My hair used to respond TR beautifully, but one before this one resulted in breakage, too. I think hair, which has become increasingly grey, has just changed as I've gotten older. My best guess about what happened the last two times is that although my natural hair feels strong, it is also very porous, especially on the top layer. I also have a lot of different textures going on between the dark and grey hair. The breakage has subsided, but my hair just doesn't feel right. To make matters worse, I've cut quite a bit off. It looks choppy and does not lie down right. It just brushes my shoulders and has lots of layers

I have decided not to do any more TR's, but in the process of growing my natural hair back, I feel I need to do something to make my hair look better. I am considering getting a BKT to smooth the frizzy re-growth and then getting extensions.

I think you had mentioned in your post that you do Great Lengths. The person I consulted with does a variety of extensions, and offered me three options:

1. Use Hair Dreams (which, I think is comparable to Great Lengths) to fill in the ends.

2. Use "Seamless" hair extensions, which are applied to the top layer, to mask the damaged, broken hairs underneath.

3. Use an "Integration Unit" which appears to use a net and then my own hair is integrated into it.

The first option would last 3-4 months and the other two about 4 weeks (and then re-applied)

I know that with out seeing me, it is hard to give advice, but I would really appreciate any insight you could give me about using hair extensions to address hair damage. The most damaged part appears to be the top layer, but my hair is not breaking any more.

I would seriously consider cutting off most of my hair, doing BKT on the new growth, and just using extensions for the next year or so if I knew that this would be a viable option for me.
Sorry for the long post. Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated!
