Subject: Roots Between TRs

I have been getting TRs on my hair for years. It has never been wash and wear but a vast improvement over my kinky, frizzy, coarse, thick natural hair. I could NOT live w/o them. My hair grows VERY quickly and I can start showing kinky/frizzy roots within 2 weeks of getting a TR. I try to space my TRs about 5-6 months apart for practical reasons as well as cost. I know that you need a certain length of regrowth to do a TR touchup, plus I know my hair could not withstand the hot iron that goes along with the TR any more often than every 6 months (my hair is naturally very dry and prone to breakage even with regular conditioning treatments). I have tried BKT and the irons were just too hot for my hair and the results were not worth the damage OR the expense. My question is, what would be a feasible, affordable alternative to relax or straighten those curly roots until I get the next TR?? My last TR was mid May and I have about 1 1/2 inches of regrowth that is driving me insane. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your input.
