I am an african american who, after 3 years of going natural (by use of a quick weave), have used a relaxer containing sodium hydroxide three months prior to visiting a very reknown hair salon. I had been having breakage but was receiving treatment at this hair salon previously.
When my hair grew out, the hairdresser introduced me to this "new hair staightner" that would eliminate the problem that I was having with the sodium hydroxide relaxer since I have fine and soft hair. I inquired of the potential danger of mixing the two system and was told that there is no danger at all as the new system was not harsh.
Except for the strand test and consult, the hairdresser did exactly the procedure as you described but would not tell me the name of the system (which I found to be very odd). The smell of the product lingered in my hair for 2 weeks until I finally washed it out.
A week after getting the system done my hair began to fall out from the root. Within 2 weeks I had much thinner hair (some times I feel that I should cut my hair or wear a wig). I am so annoyed.
Frustrated, I called the hairdresser to let her know what was happening. She gave me an emergency treatment with the nexius amoxxi emergency reconstructor treatment and some deep conditioning but she did not attribute the breakage to the new system. She said it was normal for hair to shed.
1. Will my hair get fuller again or will it continue to shed? (I did not feel any burning but I think I got some scalp irritation)
2. Will I have to cut my hair and wear a wig?
3. Can I go back to a no-lye relaxer after this or should I continue to use this system if done appropriately?
