Hi Leslie,

I have been washing my hair twice/week with Kenra (a sulfate-free shampoo that is recommended to go with the BKT). I've done four Marcia T. BKT's and one Goshalee BKT. I started noticing the dryness/stiffness after the second Marcia BKT (May, 2007). At that time, the stylist also did a semi-permanant color (Shades EQ) to tone the orange streaks in my already-colored hair. I do not bleach my hair. I color it dark brown, but I have lots of grey, and it tends to turn orange after a while. I guess it's possible that the stiffness could come from too much color. For the past 5 months, I have been coloring only the roots once every 3-4 weeks with a low-amonia color (Nexus).

I have been doing in-salon moisturizing treatments on a twice-weekly basis. I alternate between Redken, Aveda, Kerastase, and Nexus. These treatments are all mostly moisture and very little protein.

I live in the country and use well water, but I've been a shower filter and a water-softening system for the past year.

My hair feels strong, but the texture is so stiff and dry. Any ideas about what could be causing this?

Thanks!
