No offense taken by me. I have seen clients who come in just for a haircut, because they color their own hair. Sometimes it is fine and sometimes it is not. The most frequent complaint I hear is that they buy "the same color every time" yet the results are inconsistent. If the hair is turning brassy it is most likely due to iron in the water. Number one reason. You do not say whether or not professional home hair care products are being used. When chemicals are in the hair and you want to maintain it's vibrancy and integrity, it is simply not an option.
I am not the most expensive colorist, nor I am not the least colorist. I am however, a well educated colorists who spends a great deal of time and money to make sure that I am an expert in the art and composition of hair color. When a new client comes to me that has been coloring her own hair, I have no idea what is on her hair and truthfully, neither does she. Personally, I would not duplicate what she had done herself. I agree with you that there is little value in imitation. I believe that a client chooses to go to a professional because they are ready for something new and different and if that service is not suggested, then they have indeed wasted their time and money.
