because some people became upset with people who were enthusiastic about BKT.
I've been on this board for years, however, and I remember reading about TR fry jobs even in 2002 so I think as long as TR has been on the market there have been horror stories because it really does take expertise to do properly, like any chemical..just more so maybe because of all the steps involved and SO much experience to know what you're doing. And when you are learning, sometimes damage happens.
I think some people felt those of us who were excited about the new system worked for the company and were "plants" which is not the case since at least a couple of us have known each other from this board for years and through all our good AND bad TR experiences.
Also, BKT isn't just a treatment, it will straighten the hair, leaving it frizz free for up to 3 months, depending on porosity, albeit with more volume than a true TR.
One person on this board informed me that iStraight is an "inferior" product and I know that is not the case. My favorite TRs were iStraight. I switched to Liscio because it was cheaper, because my ends with my last iStraight (3rd)TR got fried (because of my technician not protecting them)and the salon didn't take responsibility. I didn't have a good result with Liscio but the person who did the process was very knowledgable and experienced in Liscio.
I think everyone's hair is different.
And you're right, I'd never suggest ANY salon get rid of TR for BKT. They both have different purposes for different people.
I even told my hairdresser if she's not doing BKT then I want iStraight NOW. iStraight is my favorite TR system but I've outlined the reasons why I want to try BKT this time. But maybe someday I'll get another TR.
But people misunderstand those of us excited about BKT and think we are against TR and we're not. iSTraight is my very favorite TR. And yet other people on this board say that Liscio is the best. But I think since everyone's hair is different I think that also has something to do with what system is going to work best for the individual as well as the technician.
An educated professional will know which of their clients would be better candidates for BKT than for TR and vice versa or even to do a TR and then keep it up by doing BKTs for a bit and then maybe another TR. Many possibilities.
