I could totally understand how that would sound discouraging. I'm definitely not a professional, just a consumer in CA, who has been patiently waiting for BKT to get permanently picked up here :)!!
I completely agree with everything Nicolle said.
I am lightening my hair all over and adding in a lot of blonde highlights so TR is completely out of the question for me. I really don't want a regular relaxer, so BKT sounds absolutely perfect for me. I'm the type of person who wants my hair looking good all of the time, otherwise I can't even leave the house. So when I start getting BKT, I will be back to the stylist to get my BKT every 3-4 months, or whenever it starts wearing off.
So I also think that any stylist who starts offering BKT will very quickly make their money back and of course, even more. Especially once everyone finds out about BKT, it will take off like wildfire, just like with TR....only I think that more people with colored/bleached hair will go for BKT, since it can be used on that type of hair.
So I think it's totally worth it to pay to get started doing it. If I was a stylist, I would start offering it in a hot second!
Whatever you decide to do, good luck to you!! And I hope you get the information you are after. Take care :)
