Yes, my hairdresser was told the same thing.
Basically you fly out to FL which is a write off and have them train you OR you have to wait until a certified trainer is in your area. I think with iStraight it's close to the same thing for TR.
Although the products are expensive even if you only charged $100 a BKT you'd get your $$s worth in one bottle.
I think the hook is seeing the product in action and how many of us want it. Many women with overprocessed TR'd hair, or those of us who want blonde hair or highlights etc WANT this option.
I've done TRs since 2002 but I want better blonde highlights and more often. so I would almost PAY my hairdresser to get the product for me.. seriously..I want it that bad.
So I agree it seems to be too much but the BKT people I guess are trying to get this entire thing together and limit their liability as more people get their hands on it.. it's still a chemical treatment and things still can go wrong.
I think soon there will be more people certified to train others out there also that will travel, but just like with iStraight, there will be a minimum charge for the training plus you have to buy the products and any irons, etc. necessary.
I think in the long run it will be lucrative for any salon to do this service. Once it hits the celeb mags (like TR did) and all the articles/tv shows on it.. then people will be CLAMORING for it...
