There is one comfort in getting older and that is your hair does not get as greasy as quickly. Small consolation for all those birthdays! In the meantime, I recommend to my clients that they use a large barrel curling iron(2 inch)and spray with hairspray close to the roots and mid-shaft of the hair. Place the iron close to the scalp and work the iron to the ends, curving the iron slightly. Don't comb or brush it out until you have done all the hair. This allows the hair to cool and creates volume. This will create lift from the root to the ends. Most people will grasp the hair on the ends with the iron and roll down to the scalp. That will create curl on the ends, but doesn't do much for lifting the hair from the root. You can also buy large velcro roller and use them with a working spray and that will create lift. I really like the Aquage Working Spray. It does not build up on your curling iron and will create great volume. I think it gets easier to go longer in between shampoos once you get in the habit. With longer hair there a lots of options with headbands, clips, etc. Of course, that only works with a TR AFTER the first 48-72 hours!
