Subject: Hair breaking before and after BKT - help!
Date: March 28, 2007 at 3:53 pm PST

I have always had great success with TR(Liscio) on my course, thick, frizzy hair until about 6 months ago. This time, my hair started breaking off. The breakage seemed to be concentrated in the front and on top. My stylist said that the breakage could have occured because I'm becoming increasingly grey and my hair is taking longer to process. She recommended protein treatments once per week for about a month in a row and then twice per month. In addition to that, I was using Mucato B-3 protein treatment once per week. At first, my hair seemed to be getting better, but then it started breaking off again. It became very elastic and clumps started snapping off whenever I showered. It has been this way for the past month or so.

About two weeks ago, I got BKT. My hair is straight, but itlooks horrible because it is continuing to break off (even more than before, I think). I'm not sure if I made it worse with the BKT because it was already damaged by the TR and, now I am thinking could have possibly been damaged by the protein.

All of this has been emotionally devastating. I know I should probably stop doing things to my hair but I want to do something to stop the damage. Also, I have quite a bit of grey and would hate to give up color (single process). I am wondering what, if anything, I can do to make my hair stop breaking. How can I tell if I have too much protein or not enough? My hair does seem to feel better when I do the treatments but I've read that ulimately it can be damaging. If it was the protein treatments that damaged my hair then did I do worse damage with the BKT?

Also, I have noticed that my stylist leaves my color on for a long time ( about 45 minutes) while she works with another client (she usually double books). Could this be damaging my hair? At my previous salon, I don't think the color was left on nearly as long? Also, I spoke to another stylist today who said that Davines (the color that she uses) is more damaging than some of the other color systems. Any opinions on this?

Any help with my hair situation would be much appreciated !
