Subject: smoothing options for short hair

Well, I'm an old pro when it comes to Yuko, because when my hair was long it (Yuko) was a savior for me. But, after 30+ years of long hair, I decided to cut my hair short (two years ago).
Now, here's the problem...My hair is VERY thick and VERY coarse. When it's longer, it has very deep S-waves in it (can't see it with the short hair). What I'd been aiming for with the short hair, was a pixie cut...I wanted it jagged and modern, but somehow after three different stylists...it never turns out that way, and instead always looks matronly (and truthfully, a little bit scary "buzz cut" like!). In all fairness, because of the texture and thickness of my hair, it just naturally looks like a porcupine when it's short and requires a lot of "heavy duty" styling products...But I'm frustrated.
I don't necessarily want to grow my hair out, but I'm trying to find other hairstyle/cut options. So, what I'm wondering is...are there any options for short hair in terms of smoothing? When my hair was done with the Yuko, it was so smooth, and felt so much "thinner", is there any product or process for short hair that can reduce the bulk? (texturizing doesn't work...trust me...stylists have left hairballs all over the floor, and my hair is still full!) If I could just get my hair to lay a little more flat, I feel like I'd have more styling/cut options!
My hair, by the way, is about 3 inches all around...possibly a little longer on top.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
