PLEASE READ:

If you have come to this site on a web search for beauty or weightloss products -- please do not call us to ask about those products. We do not sell them!

We recently have been receiving many phone calls and emails from people who read posts about a particular product on these discussion boards, and then call us because they think we may somehow sell or be involved with that product.

We only sell Lamas Beauty shampoos and skincare products. For a listing of products we sell, please visit our homepage.

Please do not call us about other products that people may talk about on these discussion boards. Our Customer Service department will not be able to discuss any products with you other than Lamas Beauty products. While people here may discuss or express opinions about other beauty or weightloss products, we have no information or connection with any products but our own, so please do not call us about those other products.

Thank you.

Subject: The new Brazilian straightening---I can't believe it
Date: October 29, 2006 at 5:45 pm PST

A client of mine came into my salon, (Hair's Talent in Connecticut) and was very excited about this service she received in a Brazilian salon. When she told me that these salons were using Embalming Fluid to straighten hair, I could not believe it. She said her hair came out beautiful and it only cost $150.00 So much better than paying $600 for a Thermal Recondition. I was speechless. She said she thinks it's not safe but who cares, it worked. I could not believe what she was saying. I asked her if she had her baby with her, and she yes.
Please, do not do this. Don't bring your children into these salons that are doing this. Most of these stylist are not even licensed stylist never mind them using such a dangerous chemical on your hair. Everyone in the salon is at risk. I understand the stylist is wearing a mask and they give you one too, but I can't believe clients are taking such a risk. My client told me that the Brazilian's know what these stylist are using but the stylist are not honest with other clients that come in for this service. Please do not have this done!!
I found some information on the chemicals they are using. Please research yourself before stepping foot into theses salons.
Embalming fluid is a compound of formaldehyde, methanol, ethanol and other solvents. The percentage of formaldehyde found in embalming fluid ranges anywhere from 5 to 29 percent. The percentage of ethyl alcohol, the psychoactive ingredient found in alcoholic beverage, varies anywhere from 9 to 56 percent. According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Embalming fluid is usually found in morgues and funeral homes, however, the fluid also can be purchased directly from chemical companies in person or from the Internet. Persons coming in contact with embalming fluid should exercise extreme caution, since exposure can cause serious health issues. Containers should not be opened and its contents should not be inhaled or applied to the skin.
Effects from exposure to embalming fluid include: bronchitis, body tissue destruction, brain damage, lung damage, impaired coordination, and inflammation and sores in the throat, nose, and esophagus. IT IS EXTREMELY CARCINOGENIC.
Short-term effects: Anger and frustration, depression, hallucinations and delusions, headache, impaired vision and coordination, increase in women’s sexual appetites, loss of consciousness, memory loss, paranoia, physical violence, sleepiness, and vomiting.
Long-term effects: Brain damage, bronchitis, coma, convulsions. Coughing, destruction of muscle tissue, fever, heart attack, high blood pressure, inflammation of the throat, nose and esophagus, kidney damage, lung damage, maturation process cessation, pneumonia, and spinal cord destruction.Embalming chemicals are highly toxic. Embalmers are required by OSHA to wear a respirator and full-body covering while embalming. Funeral home effluent, however, is not regulated, and waste is flushed into the common sewer system or septic tank.
http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/formaldehyde/recognition.html
Formaldehyde is classified as a human carcinogen and has been linked to nasal and lung cancer, and with possible links to brain cancer and leukemia. Short-term exposure to formaldehyde can be fatal. Long-term exposure to low levels of formaldehyde may cause respiratory difficulty, eczema, and sensitization. The following references aid in recognizing formaldehyde hazards in the workplace.
