We only sell Lamas Beauty shampoos and skincare products. For a listing of products we sell, please visit our homepage.

Please do not call us about other products that people may talk about on these discussion boards. Subject: Water Softeners & scalp conditions...any opinions appreciated
Date: October 27, 2006 at 9:39 am PST

I have for a long time dealt with an itchy scalp. It seemed to get worse when my husband installed a water softener. I have a very hard time getting any kind of lather and it takes at least 3 shampoos to feel I am truly getting to my scalp. I personally dislike the soft water as I have a difficult time feeling clean no matter how much I tell myself that the soft water is better for my skin and scalp.

I have very thick coarse wavy dry hair that is generally "big". I do blow dry and flat iron (with protectants) just to gain control of it and give it some lightness. I actually feel that by making my hair less big, my scalp feels like more air reaches it and I am less itchy. My problem is that I have to wash it every two days because my scalp just drives me crazy. I don't have any dandruff, just itch. I probably have some sort of dermatitis and right now and for the past years I have used tea tree shampoo and it makes it tolerable but only for about 1 and a half days, then I start itching like crazy. I have also used Scalpicin (extra strength) with little satisfaction. My dermotologist gave me a sample of some foam medication but my hair is so thick that it never had a chance to get to my scalp.

Someone below mentioned water softeners as a potential problem. Does anyone know about the possible negative effects of these softeners on scalp conditions?? And could this be making my ongoing scalp condition worse?? Is anyone else out there dealing with something like this...I would really appreciate any opinions. Thanks!
