Kim, I have been wearing acrylic nails for over 5 years, I had them removed once, and the only problem ,my own nails were very soft for awhile, which is expected. they break easily, but if you really want to wear your own, then just wait. I had them put on again because I am very busy and it looks better and I really dont have to think about them for 2 weeks. A word of advice, be careful where you go to get them done, there are unprofessional people out there and they can make a mess, it happened to me. Ask someone whose nails you like, that is the beset way. Hope this helps
