If the ingrown hairs occur in a skin area that you usually shave, try switching to an electric razor. This protects re-injury to the hair follicle (that occurs inevitably with a razor blade) every time you shave. Also, shaving hair in the direction of growth (which is down rather than up) may prevent ingrown hairs. Shaving in the same direction as the hair growth may coax the hair to grow out straight instead of curling back into the skin. And use a good shaving cream or gel instead of soap. If this is not successful enough, or if the ingrown hairs are not in areas that you shave, you might try some of the exfoliating skin products, such as the salicylic acid or beta hydroxy acid cream, gels or washes. Be sure to keep the skin healthy and well-moisturized too.
If the ingrown hair is not in an area that you shave then you may want to look into electrolysis treatment for a permanent solution. I do hope this can be of help and regret being so late in replying to your posting.
