HERE HERE! THANK YOU ROBYN!! Having very fine hair strands that I color, highlight, blow dry and straighten regularly, I've been plagued by horrible split ends my entire life. My hair grows only to a particular length because once it gets there, it's so damaged that I have to get it cut and start all over again. It's been the story of my life.
I came to the Web to research this product because if it does even 1/2 of what it claims to do, and snips off even half of my split ends, prolonging the time between trips to the salon where I'm always made to feel self-conscious because my "ends are in very bad condition" ... it's definitely worth the $20 or $30. In addition, I'm so, so fed up with hearing the question, "What products are you using on your hair?" as the stylist coerces me to spend $60 (of money I don't have) on products in their shop that are "much better for your hair" (I never see much of a difference except in my checking account balance).
On the Web, Ive been able to read network news stories, magazine articles and even watch video of consumer watch-dog field testing and I noticed EXACTLY what you commented on ... that those who were against the SPLIT-ENDER were all HAIR STYLISTS, SALON OWNERS or COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTORS .... in other words, the success of a $25 product (estimate) might pose some sort of threat to them and their clientele and their bottom line ......... horsepoop! That's an insane way of thinking .... there are about 300 million people in the U.S. and although not all of them have hair, that's still a lot of darn customers ... so if a few thousand of us find comfort and relief in a cheap (inexpensive) little appliance that cures what's been ailing us all our lives, so be it! Let it go. We'll (most of us) still come see you for perms, coloring, extensions, highlights ... and maybe even the occasional even out trim once the SPLIT-ENDER has trimmed off all our dead/split ends leaving it with a jagged appearance!!
In fact, maybe stylists should UNBIASEDLY try the SPLIT-ENDER ... seriously give it a shot ........... and if you like the results and see that it makes a difference in the hair of a frustrated client .... buy and keep a couple on hand, recommend them or sell them to clients WHO WILL LOVE YOU FOR LIFE ... it's like the movie Miracle on 34th Street ... the whole Macy's/Gimbels feud until the Macy's Santa starts doing shoppers a service by sending them to the competitor when they don't have what the customer wants!
Your customers will appreciate it and will be back for more!

BTW - I have yet to buy the product ---- I plan to purchase it online or at Walgreen's or Target today (3/21/04) .... I did, however, want to let my thoughts be known on the (negative) reviews made by stylists.
Stylists: I do love you ---- and since I cannot perfect the art of beautifully highlighting (foil weave) my hair or perming it or adding extensions ... you will ALWAYS serve a purpose in my life! Hail to the truthful, unbiased stylists!!
