Like
you, I pretty much ate to my hearts content over the holidays
and while we take the time to get back to our regular weight we
might want to create an illusion of slimness. Everyone says, look
10 pounds thinner, sure, these tips will do it for you even after
you've lost the weight.
- Stand comfortably erect and stick your stomach in.
Good posture always makes you look slimmer.
- Dark colors such as olive, black, charcoal gray, and
navy help make areas appear smaller so wear them where you think
you need it. For most women its from the waist down.
- Avoid shiny or heavily textured fabrics. Shiny fabrics
reflect light, making any area appear larger. Heavily texture
fabrics only add extra weight.
- Incorporate vertical lines. Sewn-down pleats in skirts
and blouses and princess seams in a dress can both create a
slimming effect. Include vertical lines in your accessories,
such as long chains worn around the neck.
- Your best asset is your face, so draw attention to
it with scarves and jewelry worn around the face.
- Avoid wearing clothes that are too tight. These only
accentuate your weight. Full silhouettes may cover weight gain,
but the extra material adds unnecessary weight.
- Introduce simple lines, such as A-line skirts, tailor-notched,
collared blouses and blazers. The oversized blazer is a great
solution for camouflaging large derrieres and hips. Double-pleated
skirts and trousers mask protruding stomachs and provide comfort
as well.
- Emphasize angular, as opposed to rounded, shapes and
styles in your wardrobe. Angular shapes offset the roundness
of the body and bring it into balance.
- Avoid extensive use of horizontal lines - belts, boat-collar
blouses and border print skirts. These styles can add extra
width to your body frame.
- If you have large legs, try dark hose (sheer please!).
Off-black, charcoal, taupe, black, and coffee will make all
legs appear thinner, while white, pearl, and cream will have
the opposite effect.
