Bright Eyes 101

Three steps to faking a good night's sleep

Moisturize. If fine lines are your top priority, choose moisturizing eye creams with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, soy, or vitamin E. Each morning, place three small dots beneath the lower lashes from the inner to outer corners, and pat gently with a finger to blend. Repeat with a dab on the upper lids, smoothing up to the brow bones. Then wait two minutes for it to absorb into the skin.

Conceal. Using your ring finger or a small, synthetic brush, dot a creamy yellow-tone concealer from the inner corners to the point where the dark circles end (usually at the center). Dab over the area with the same finger or brush, blending up to the lash line. Pat a fine layer of translucent powder on top. If eyes are puffy, skip the powder, and apply a gel containing caffeine over the concealer instead.

Brighten. To camouflage blood vessels, which are often visible beneath the delicate skin on the upper eyelids, blend concealer from the lashes to the crease. Spread a thin coat of shimmer cream or highlighter below the brow bones, and dot a little at the innermost corners of the eyes. Run a white or beige pencil along the inner rim of the lower lids, then curl the eyelashes and brush on two coats of black mascara.

False eyelashes applied to the outer corners of your eyes help, as does extra mascara (but not on lower lashes, as this can enclose the eyes).

Tip: Well-groomed brows add definition and interest to the center of your face and take the focus off the perimeter.
