Sun Proof Your Child This Summer

80% of sun damage occurs before the age of 18. But it doesn't show up until decades later, in the form of wrinkles and sun cancer. Great protection against heat as well as sun exposure.

Here are 6 easy ways to make sure it doesn't happen to your kids:

1.

Put a hat on: Look for a wide brim and an elastic chin strap for toddlers. Great protection against heat as well as sun exposure.

2.

Clothing considerations: Diaper-only dressing may seem practical but it's too much exposure for baby skin. Loose-fitting, light colored tees, tops, rompers, shorts and pants are cool and comfy with better skin coverage by far.

3.

Make sunscreen part of your child's daily grooming: Don't wait till you get to the beach or playground and your child's too excited to stand still while you put it on!

4.

Use a sunblock specifically for kids: Words to look for on the package include: allergy tested, PABA free, formulated to be gentle enough for children's skin and one that won't sting if it gets in the eyes. Waterproof is ideal if your child will be in and out of the water.

5.

Sunglasses: Older kids love the cool look. Buy sunglasses that are shatterproof and feature UVA and UVB protectant lenses.

6.

Have plenty of liquids on-hand: Kids get sweaty, fast. Have plenty of water, juice and other fluids handy to prevent dehydration. Reapply sunscreen often, because it gets diluted with perspiration.
