Men!
You can't live with them or without them. You can't even figure
out what to get them for Valentine's Day. I should know. I'm one
of those hard-to-shop-for men.
Many
women put unrealistic pressure on themselves to find the quintessentially
romantic gift for all time. Forget it! That gift has been discontinued.
Turn down the anxiety and turn up the heat with something different
this year.
Boys
Night In
This
is a no-brainer. If you really want something your man will love,
consider the gift of lingerie. No, not cross-dressing. This is
the gift for him that you get to wear. You can never go wrong
with something black and sheer. For example, stockings, complete
with garter belt and all the trimmings. How far you take this
gift is up to your imagination. Tasteful is fine, but you could
have a lot of fun with Frederick's of Hollywood. So, by all means,
if in doubt, go for lingerie. I can assure you, he will.
Boys
Night Out
Here's
a gift idea with a twist. Give him 2-3 tickets for a concert,
basketball game or any other event he'd like. The real kicker:
tell him the extra tickets are for the "boys." But, isn't Valentine's
Day supposed to be about lovers? Let me explain: guys love their
freedom (almost) as much as they love you. By giving yours a "Boys
Night Out" you let him know that you're secure (a very sexy quality)
and (hmm) independent. This gift is guaranteed to make you unbearably
attractive. But, if this gift doesn't evoke the desired response,
you'll give him socks and underwear, next year. Assuming there's
a 'next year' for him.
The
Buttoned-Up Guy
There
are men who actually get excited about getting belts, ties and
the like. If he's a clothes horse (or you wish!), why not shirt
the issue with a fine, custom-made shirt, tailored to his exact
proportions and specifications. Inquire at menswear shops and
tailors in your area for this very special service. Most have
a minimum order of four custom-made shirts, starting at around
$300 and up, depending upon fabric. Warning: this could spoil
him for life.
Get
Him Docked Out
Another
idea for this Valentine's Day: Dockers K-1 Khakis. The genuine
article cut from 1932 Cramerton® army cloth, the same 9.0 oz.
cotton fabric used to make the official khakis the military wore
in WWII. Authentic features include a US Military hook and eye
closure and a button fly with buttons cast from the original 1940
US Military mold. Available at department stores and online at
www.dockers.com/k-1. A gift of K-1's could have your Valentine
ready to enlist for life.
Bag
A Real Catch
Make
his field of dreams come true with a Rawlings® duffel or carry-on
bag sewn from the same tan or black leather of their legendary
baseball gloves. Even if he never made it beyond Little League,
these bags are sure to bring back memories of his first glove.
The All-Leather MVP Duffel has a front flap pocket and detachable
organizer ($515; but a canvas and leather trim version also slides
in at $225). The multi-pocketed Rawlings' Fly Ball Carry-On is
great choice, too, at $575. In canvas with leather trim: $295.
Rawlings also offers smaller leather items like luggage tags,
wallets, photo frames and personal organizers. Order at www.sportsaccessories.com.
Or, call 888-556-7776 for the nearest retailer. For guys, it'll
be glove at first sight.
Book
A Romantic Getaway
Lure
him to a Valentine weekend someplace special. A jaunt to the Bahamas…a
weekend at that charming B&B in the mountains you read about…an
off-season winter escape to the beach. Wherever, take along some
of that new lingerie we mentioned earlier to put the icing on
his cake.
No matter what you give Dearly Beloved this Valentine's Day, remember
that great song by Hal David and Burt Bacharach: "What the world
needs now is love, sweet love. It's the only thing that there's
just too little of." It was true in the '60's, and it's true today.
Give him some TLC - it's the best gift of all.
