Foundation and Face Color Tips
Foundation and Face Color Tips
1. Apply eye creams and moisturizers before foundation. The eye area especially is the first place foundation tends to crease. Mixing a few drops of shimmer lotion into liquid foundation gives a subtle gleam.
2. For even coverage, apply foundation with a slightly damp sponge, or foundation brush. For maximum coverage, creme covers best. For medium to sheer coverage, try liquid foundations. For maximum versatility, try wet/dry compact makeup.
3. Avoid creme or moisture-rich foundations if your skin is oily. Sheer foundation is best for blemished, or freckle lined skin. Acne prone skin should avoid compact foundations, the sponge grabs' bacteria's and they breed in that closed dark space. A heavy base can accentuate pimples and wrinkles.
4. After foundation, and before powder, simulate fresh, natural flushed cheeks with a gel blush color.
5. Recipe for Tinted Moisturizer: Make your own by mixing one part foundation with two parts moisturizer in the palm of your hand, then apply.
6. Too red or too sallow? Correct natural skin tone under color with tinted primer. Use mint-green to neutralize redness or blotchiness. Use violet to neutralize yellow tones. White primer will neutralize all tones to give skin a porcelain pale finish. Bronzing powder can help tone down ruddy, uneven coloring skin tones, or rosacea
7. When applying concealer use a small nylon brush-a natural brush will soak up the concealer. A nylon brush helps blend in evenly without smearing
8. Dark olive, or African American skin is often darker on the forehead where the sun hits. A slightly darker foundation might be needed in this area.
9. Soak up excess foundation by pressing a clean sponge on the face, especially around the nose and mouth where foundation tends to collect.
10. If foundation looks heavy at the end of the day you can freshen it by dabbing a moisturizer under the eyes and smoothing it across the cheekbones.
11. Light reflecting foundations contain particles that detract attention from lines and blemishes and add a subtle glow to mature skin.
