So your hair is looking thinner. What can you do about it?

Realizing that your hair is beginning to look thinner or noticing that there's more hair in your brush, shower drain and on your pillow is frustrating!

We may rationalize that it’s brought on by stress or damage from chemicals and try to hide the problem. But the first step to getting your hair healthier & fuller looking is to find out the source of your problem. Don't ignore it! You can figure out your best line of defense.

The problem of thinning hair may be caused by health problems such as Hyperthyroid or Hypothyroid conditions; medications such as chemotherapy, any hormone replacement medications including birth control pills are culprits often overlooked. Thinning hair can also be attributed to stress and trauma that can cause constriction of blood supply and poor vitamin assimilation to the scalp and hair. Thinning hair may be caused by a genetic predisposition that comes from a family history of thinning hair. Or, simply from poor nutrition and diet that can include a high consumption of animal fat, high protein and fad diets. Even external environmental toxins and pollutants, such as chlorine, metals, minerals and water pollution cannot be ignored. All these factors can be causing the increased amount of hair that’s falling out or breaking off. Its very difficult to find stylists or doctor’s who are educated on the causes of thinning hair and can tell you about what products, vitamins and medications or surgical procedures you can use to restore fuller, healthier-looking hair.

There are many people like you who are facing the same problem. Gather the facts on why your hair might be thinning and discuss the situation with your stylist and your Doctor. Especially if you have any health-related concerns like the ones mentioned in the previous chapter of this article.
