TR Care
(caring for your new hair, styling, conditioning, coloring tips)
Taking
care of your newly Thermal Reconditioned hair:
Your hair will require some very specific attention during the first few
days after having TR.
Your stylist should instruct you not to wash or wet your hair for 2 days
after your TR process. You may end up with some curl, wave, or even breakage.
The procedure is not yet over even though you have paid for the service
and are on your way home. The neutralizer only begins to re-bond the hair,
and it still needs to absorb more oxygen and will do so naturally through
the air this is to allow it to completely neutralize into its newly relaxed
shape.
Don't tie your hair into a ponytail, or tuck it behind your ears. Leave
your hair perfectly still for at least a week. And don't go to bed with
your hair wet.
No barrettes, pins or bands.
Your hair is still soft and it might develop a line of demarcation where
you place the barrettes, pins or bands or you might get a C shape around
your ear from tucking it.
If you have to put your hair up you can use a butterfly clip to hold it
up. If your hair develops a kink or line of demarcation in the first 2
weeks you can straighten it out with the blower or the flat iron. Your
hair is still soft enough to straighten in this manner.
You
will need:
A specially designed shampoo and conditioner
A once-a-week treatment is also a part of keeping your hair in good shape.
Then I recommend products like a thermal heat protector when blow-drying
to prevent heat damage from your hairdryer and flat iron. The best ones
have proteins in them and condition as you apply the heat.
Possibly an oil for added shine and silkiness.
How
long will the Thermal Reconditioning treatment last?
Whatever got treated will remain straight and will not become curly or
wavy again. The new growth that appears in the months following the treatment
will need to be Thermally Reconditioned again. The new growth usually
needs to be treated about four to six months after the initial treatment.
Some stylists will offer a better price for a partial TR. This will make
it possible to go longer between full treatments because the roots are
less noticeable.
If
you decide to color your hair again:
Wait 2 weeks after your TR
Having your hair colored and using a straightener could result in damage
to your hair. It's not that either of these is dangerous or damaging by
themselves, but when they are combined, they can be simply too much for
your hair to handle. A colorist must understand the porosity of the hair.
A professional hairdresser will often take what is called a test strand.
If the result is that you should not try this on your hair please take
this advice.
It is always possible to find a less professional hairdresser who will
do what you want and the result could be that you end up with the new
"emergency short style", so please don't take the warning lightly.
