Q:
Is
it possible to reduce nostril size during rhinoplasty
surgery?
Dr.
Loftus Answers: Yes. Large nostrils can be reduced in size
by a technique called "weir excisions." Weir excisions reduce
nostril size by removing a wedge of each nostril along the side
of each nostril where the nostril meets the cheek. This technique
is very effective in reducing nostril size, but results in a scar
along the side of each nostril. Because the scar falls in the
crease where the nose meets the cheek, it often is difficult to
see and heals discretely.
