Q:
I have dark circles under my eyes
and my friends say I look like a raccoon. Please help me! What
can I do?
Betty,
California
Peter Answers: Look for an eye product which contains a
lightening agent for dark circles under the eyes, and use it daily,
especially in the inside corners of the eyes working out toward
the ends. Most good eye products have a particular lightening
agent in their formulation for lightening dark circles.
Q:
What is the best way to camouflage a
blemish without looking like I've applied a ton of
makeup?
Karen,
Seattle
Peter Answers: On photo shoots it is not uncommon for me
to face this dilemma. When facing breakouts, the best way to start
covering them is to begin by applying an antiseptic stick, like
the kind men use when they cut themselves shaving. That will help
dry the blemish and kill the bacteria. Second, use Visine, like
the kind used on eyes to clear up the redness. Soak the Visine
heavily on a small piece of cotton and hold it on the blemish
for a minute or longer. This will help reduce the redness. Then
apply a drop of Preparation H and allow it to absorb for 3 to
5 minutes. This will take away the swelling. Finally, apply foundation.
The breakout should be virtually unnoticeable if you follow these
simple steps. If there is still a trace left, go over the area
with a little bit of concealer, blend lightly.
Q:
I have extreme difficulty getting lipstick
to stay on for any length of time. Sometimes, I find
that I have to reapply my lipstick after only an hour! What do
you recommend?
Margaret,
Colorado
Peter Answers: If you are having difficulty keeping on
your lipstick, you probably tend to have dry lips to begin with.
You may also have a tendency to bite your lips, or unconsciously
lick your lips, due to dryness. This will definitely cause the
lipstick to vanish more quickly. Start by using a good lip balm
before applying your lipstick, the lip balm will moisturize the
lips preventing the feeling of dryness. Next, use a lip lining
pencil to fill in the lips, then apply your lipstick. Press your
lips on a dry tissue and apply the lipstick again. That should
help the lipstick stay on longer and maintain the lip's moisture.
For extra staying power, first take a tissue, hold it flat against
your lips without applying too much pressure, then take a powder
brush, dip it into loose powder and apply a little bit on the
tissue that is up against your lip. Finally, remove the tissue.
If desired, you may apply a light coating of lip-gloss. That will
definitely keep your lips feeling moist.
