Hello
Ladies,
Welcome back to Dress Me Up! Dress Me Down! - where I deal with
issues pertaining to personal style development.
I
sincerely hope you enjoyed last month's segment on fashion advice.
Please feel free to ask any questions. Remember there are no bad
questions. I'm here to help you with all of your fashion needs.
Listed below are just a few frequently asked questions and answers
that I hope will help you get started when developing your own
personal style.
Q:
If
my body is big all over, what
should I do?
Debbie,
Michigan
Diane
Answers:
Wear darker colors from nose to toes. Add color through your accessories.
Wear quality fabrics that will hold their shape, jackets and vests
that fall easily over the stomach and hips. Do not tuck in your
tops.
Q:
My
closet is such a mess, I don't know where
to start to clean, how can you help me?
Susan,
Kansas
Diane
Answers:
There
are a lot of companies that offer closet organization solutions.
Here are some companies and their phone numbers.
The California Closet: 1-800-274-6745
Hold Everything: 1-800-421-2264
In
addition, here are three suggestions to get you started:
1. Get rid of anything that's not been worn in a year
2. Check all keepers for repair and cleaning and put aside
3. Hang similar garments together, pants with pants, blouses with
blouses, etc..
Q:
I am on a limited budget,
how do I keep from making expensive
mistakes with my wardrobe?
Kellie,
California
Diane
Answers:
Men and women alike are all interested in saving whenever they
can. I will give you a few basic rules listed below.
|
1. |
Learn what not to look at, don't be hard sold on people trying
to sell unflattering clothes. When a salesperson says, "here
is the latest fashion; buy it," I say, "resist," say "no."
Know your body type and what works for your body frame. |
|
2. |
Be sure to try the garment on in a full-length mirror. A three-sided
mirror would even be better. |
|
3. |
Buy only from your color palette, this will eliminate the
purchase and return game we have all played. If you're not
sure of the colors in your palette, be sure to have a certified
color tech drape you with proper drapes, they will be able
to help and keep you from making expensive mistakes, not to
mention your best look. |
|
4. |
Shop with a friend who understands your seasonal colors and
has had her colors done as well. Only then will she understand
your best look and what you're looking to accomplish. |
|
5. |
Don't buy impulsively. |
|
6. |
Spend money on clothes you're going to wear the most. |
Just
knowing a couple of simple rules can be very rewarding to your
budget. Using color and body framing being the most important.
Use "BeautyWalk" information to help you walk through your closet
and shopping. These are just a few hints to help you and save
when buying on a budget.
Q:
What type of shoe should I wear
and when?
Julie,
California
Diane
Answers: Here
are my suggestions for various lifestyles:
Day Wear Business:
Classic pump or spectator
Day Wear Casual:
Leather flat slip on, sandal or tennis shoe
Evening Wear: Patent
leather, strapped sandal or sling back
